While watching TV today I learned a new word, avodah. It’s a Hebrew word that means work in service to someone and that work being considered worship.

Isn’t this a great way to think about what we do in our businesses?

Avodah. Even saying the word moves me. It perfectly describes what I want my business to be – work and worship. Have you ever thought of the work you do in your business as worship? You have if you are fashioning your business to be an instrument of ministry. Although it could, having a business ministry doesn’t mean you have to quote scriptures or preach to your customers. It also doesn’t matter what business you’re in. It only matters how you choose to serve.

Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
